40th Anniversary
From its humble beginnings as a small community event, Spiedie Fest has grown into a beloved tradition that attracts thousands of visitors to Binghamton, NY, each year. In 1983, a few families got together and argued over who had the best Spidie’s recipe in Binghamton. To end their friendly rivalry, they held the first Spiedie Fest Cooking Contests in subsequent years. In 2001, the Library of Congress recognized the festival with a Legacy Award, and today, a Spiedie Fest display resides in the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. In 2005, Destination Magazine named the festival one of the 100 Best Destinations in the U.S. Over the last three decades, with tremendous support from the community, Spiedie Fest has grown from its origins as a spiedie cook-off to include hot air balloons, musical acts, family entertainment, a 5k run/walk, volleyball tournament, car show and dozens of food and merchandise vendors.
